In this unit, we discussed receptive skills and how to use them to our advantage in the classroom. Listening and reading are both extremely important when it comes to comprehending material in a foreign language. Just like learning anything, we use our eyes and our ears to help us understand what we are learning. When it is specifically used for learning a foreign language, it gives the opportunity for exposure to the sounds of conventional speech, and how the language is written. I believe it is very beneficial for students to utilize both these skill sets equally so there is more of a balanced learning environment. I also found the examples in the chapter of ways to introduce receptive skills to be useful.
