This unit was challenging because it made you really pay attention to how you pronounce emphasize words. As a native English speaker, you don't really pay attention to how you are speaking, and which words you need to stress, to accurately convey your meaning because we were taught that when we first started to speak. I can understand why correct pronunciation is one of the hardest things to master when learning English, especially with the way English uses sound joining. I learned that a sentence's meaning can change, in an instance, by simple changing the words you stress. Being able to understand how different sounds are formed will be important when teaching students how to pronounce words correctly. This unit introduced phonemic symbols to me for the first time and I found it really interesting and helpful. Truly understanding the different phonemic symbols will become a great tool for myself and my future students.
