In Unit 3, I learned about classroom management. I learned about the effectiveness of eye contact and when it is useful and when it is not. I also learned about the importance of gestures to help the students understand the material. Voice tone is also very important, because it reduces confusion. Unit 3 stresses the importance of using students' names when necessary to help organize activities, and indicate who is to respond to a question. The unit also covers the various types of groups the students could be placed in to complete work, and some of the cons of each orientation. I learned that the teacher doesn't have to be standing the whole time, and can sit when attention on the teacher is not needed, such as during reading activities. I also learned the importance of balance between teacher talking time and student talking time, and how that can help build rapport and respect amongst students and teacher. Unit 3 covers the reasons for problematic behavior and some ways to prevent and respond to it.
