Productive skills are just as important as receptive skills. When teaching students how to write and talk, it is crucial to give them the space to be creative. This allows them to broaden their vocabulary as much as possible, and gives them freedom to work on topics that they enjoy. If students make mistakes when going through an activate phase, it is best to leave corrections on the side, and let them explore the language. More corrections should be given in the study phase of the ESA format. When giving corrections, it may be a good idea to do so one on one, or in a general class discussion, without singling students out.
