In this Unit we covered content related to diferent aspects of coursebooks and lesson materials. In this Unit we learnt that course materials can be divided into 2 groups which are authentic materials and created materials. As we learnt in this Unit, authentic materials are those materials that are not designed for ESL students but in effect these are materials that a native speaker would normally hear or read in a daily basis such as programs, magazines, songs, poems, among others. On the other hand, created materials, are those materials that are commonly written for a general audience and that commonly provide a graded syllabus. In this Unit we also learnt some important advantages of course books, such as that it provides a syllabus, and that it also offers continuity and progression. As there are advantages in using course books, there are also some disadvantages such as that it may not always fit with the interests of the class members. Overall, from this Unit, I can say that I learnt that both created materials and authentic materials are useful resources that contribute to the learnign of a new language, however, each one of them contributes in a different way.
