Reading and listening are two of four basic skills in language, and both are equally important. When teaching a lesson, the teacher should have a balanced approach, incorporating both reading and listening skills. There are a few aspects that can help to reduce language difficulty, when teaching a lesson. First, a teacher can pre-teach difficult vocabulary before starting a reading or listening activity. Additionally, a teacher should choose topics that are of interest to students, that will easily engage students and increase their attention to the overall lesson. Finally, when selecting texts to read or listen to, the teacher should carefully select, in order to focus on what a student knows versus what a student does not know.
