This unit is designed to give teachers an understanding of the different types of testing, assessments, and evaluations for learners. There are different types because students have many levels of necessity and interest. For example, testing just to get into the right class level, then once in a class testing to give a student a correct understanding of their current knowledge gives a perspective of what growth they can aim for, then periodic progress tests to keep them aware of the overall progress, and then end of course tests to show what they have learned and to prepare for further testing even outside of their classroom for use in further education. The unit also explains some of the external types of tests that people use around the world in learning and assessing language abilities.
