In this unit we discussed conditionals and reported speech. One of my junior high school class recently touched upon this subject. While, we mainly focused on zero conditional sentences, I am looking forward to seeing how the head teacher incorporates the other conditionals in the lesson. As of now, none of my junior high school classes have had very much experiencing reporting besides "he said" or "she said". I had never really considered how the grammar structure changed when reporting vs. stating a fact. As native speakers, I think we can naturally think in third person this way, but as a student learning, I think this is a more difficult concept to grasp. This is because there are many kinds of conditionals and tenses in the English language, and learning which goes where and which is more correct to use at certain times is hard. I think the best practice they could do would be to read many newspaper titles and try to creatively think of headlines on their own. That way they are using the targeted grammar while doing an assignment that has real-life text or has taken their interest.
