In this unit, we focused on lesson planning and how a teacher can help a class run smoothly. As I am already teaching ESL, I have found a lot of this content relatable. However, there are things I took away from it that I found I could apply to my own lesson. One of those factors is timing. I usually follow a straight arrow lesson plan, but I usually do not anticipate how many minutes something will take. Because of this, I often do not have enough or I have too much time for the activity. Another thing I will take way from this lesson is creating an "anticipated problems" section in my lesson planning. For example, if I am teaching 5th first grade ESL class about telling time. I might anticipate that the student's could say "second" clock or rather use military time (not wrong, but uncommon when telling time for most American classrooms). I plan to use the lessons and structures learnt in this lesson as I plan my next weeks lessons.
