Teaching receptive skills is the topic of Unit 7. Receptive skills involve reading and listening. I learnt that there are five different specialist skills when reading or listening and they include: predictive skills, scanning, skimming, detailed information and deduction from context (Page 3). I learnt that pre-teaching difficult/unknown vocabulary to students before initiating an activity may assist in decreasing student barriers of not knowing what every word means (Page 4). Receptive skills can be taught in many different and equally successful ways and the main similarity is to keep students interested and engaged throughout the lesson.
