Managing classes are the main focus of this unit. It outlines how seating arrangements, grouping students, maintaining eye contact, gesturing, changes in tone of voice, writing on the board, building student rapport and disciplining students can impact the management of a class. This unit taught me the importance of students utilising their spoken English in class, is dependent on the type of lesson/activity and on the English language level of the students (Page 10, paragraph 2). I learnt that pair work can not only increase student talk time (Page 5; Dot point 11), but it can also assist in building student-teacher rapport (Page 12; Dot point 5). I was able to gain an understanding of the techniques involved in managing a class like how changing the set up of the tables can change the dominance of a teacher.
