This unit has taught me the importance of testing your students through the course of their studies. The unit outlined the three ways of assessing a students language level. Tutorials, tests and evaluations are used to determine problem areas and progress during the course of a students learning. The unit also outlines the different types of tests that are used namely; Placement tests, progress tests, diagnostic tests, practice tests, general external examinations and the Cambridge assessments. All of the above tests aim to asses a learners ability to read, write and speak the English language. In conclusion it is important to use the correct method of testing for the correct reason, whether it is to prepare a student for an eternal examination or to gauge a students progress and identify weak points. All tests should therefore be relevant and conducted at the right time to effectively aid you as teacher and prepare your students for the challenges that they will face.
