Observed Teaching Practice Certification Courses
As a provider of high-quality online and in-class TEFL/TESOL courses for nearly two decades, ITTT is continuously striving to offer the best possible courses for our students to meet the demands of the TEFL/TESOL industry. We pride ourselves on offering quality training that suits the needs of our students. With this in mind we have created the online Observed Teaching Practice (OTP) course. This unique course offers qualified teachers who are unable to attend a training centre the chance to earn a practical teaching certificate.
The great benefit of ITTT’s OTP course is that it can be completed remotely without the need of any specialist equipment. Students complete a number of tasks before planning, teaching and recording lessons in a classroom setting. All course work, including the recorded lessons, is submitted online and assessed by our course trainers. Throughout this process you will acquire additional transferable skills such as video recording, video conferencing (Skype) and portfolio construction.
30-Hour Course & 50-Hour Course
ITTT’s OTP course is open to anyone with an online TEFL/TESOL certificate whether it is from ITTT or elsewhere as long as that certificate includes a grammar component and at least 100 hours of study. The course is available in 30-hour (6 hours of OTP) or 50-hour (12 hours of OTP) options, which when used in conjunction with an online TEFL/TESOL certificate provides full certification for the majority of teaching jobs around the world.
The 3 Phases of an OTP Course
- 1) The first phase develops an awareness of and practice in the uses of lesson planning, feedback techniques, self evaluation and video as a training tool.
- 2) In the second phase participants demonstrate through the actual teaching of real ELLs (English Language Learners) their skills and abilities as teachers over a range of student levels and topics.
- 3) The final phase is where participants prepare for a series of interview-style questions on the topics covered throughout the course and a Skype interview is conducted.
How OTP Courses Work
When you have successfully completed the course, for which you will have six months, you will have earned an Observed Teaching Practice certificate and you will have produced a portfolio of your work throughout the course. This portfolio will provide useful evidence of your teaching skills for future job applications.
The course is built around three elements or phases. The first phase deals with lesson planning, feedback techniques, self evaluation and using video as a training tool. The second phase involves the teaching practice. During this phase students will plan and teach a series of lessons in order to demonstrate their abilities in the classroom. The final phase of the course involves preparation for a series of interview-style questions on what has been covered in the course and an interview is conducted over Skype.
The courses offer great value for money with the 30-hour course priced at just $249 and the 50-hour course at $399.
