This unit consisted of modals, passive voice, relative and dependent clauses, and phrasal verbs. Different modals have a different possible range of meanings, and can express different degrees of formality. Passive voice have slightly different rules depending on the tense being used and can be used to change the focus of the sentence. Relative clauses can be divided up into defining and non-defining clauses, which can be useful tools in specifying a direct object. Phrasal verbs can be of three types, depending on whether they are transitive or intransitive, and whether particles are separable from one another.
