TESOL Videos - TEFL 120-hour Course - Unit 3
In her third video, Chantelle talks about unit 3 of the 120-hour online TEFL course from ITTT. This unit deals with teaching theories, methodologies and techniques. The unit introduces several different methodologies before focusing on the ESA method that is used throughout the course. The unit also covers a range of different activities that can be used in a lesson. It also looks at ways to deal with correcting student mistakes and errors in spoken and written English.
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
During this unit I learned about the most common learning developmental stages and how they are used in an Esl classroom. I also learned about the difference between language learning and language acquisition, which is about using the language in a meaningful way. Then I was introduced to the ESA class methodology of Engage, study and activate and how this can be altered to suit the requirements of the learners needs. This was followed by classroom layout advantages and disadvantages, for both the teacher and the students, and the different roles that the teacher has to take in a young learners classroom.
