TESOL Videos - TEFL 120-hour Course - Unit 2
In this episode of Chantelle’s TEFL diary she takes us through her experiences with the second unit of her online TEFL course. Unit 2 of ITTT’s 120-hour TEFL course focuses on parts of speech; nouns, verbs, adjectives etc. As Chantelle points out in her video, having a basic understanding of the rules behind parts of speech is an important part of being an English teacher and is something that many native speakers of English take for granted. Although, as native speakers, we may instinctively know when and where to use the different parts of speech; understanding how to explain the rules to an English learner is a very different matter.
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
This unit was a very interesting learning experience. As I've learnt the importance of promounciation especially when teaching foreign students. I've learnt that in order to teach English, you have to know the depths of English and when it comes to promounciation, it can alter the entire meaning of a sentence just by which word you stress and the tone of how you say it. I have learnt how to detect the rise and fall in a sentence and how to sound if I would like a response or if I've finished my sentence. I've gotten ideas on how to teach promounciation such as gesturing, humming, using the board and visuals.
