TESOL Videos - Accredited TEFL TESOL Courses
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
Unit 15 discussed how students are evaluated. Testing and evaluation can occur at different stages. Students are usually assessed with a placement exam before starting a course. A teacher may give a diagnostic test at the beginning of a particular class to find out what the students know and to help the teacher prepare materials for the students. Progress tests are given periodically during a course to see what the students have remembered and what language items may need more work. Sometimes a more extensive test is given at the end of the course to evaluate the students. Practice tests are given before more formal external examinations to help the student prepare. The unit also discussed the different external examinations given to students to test their language ability for universities, business, and general English communication. This unit was very helpful in understanding the importance of testing and evaluating students. (It is good for the teacher to be evaluated as well!)
