In this unit, I learned about modal verbs, phrasal verbs, and the passive voice. Modals are used to express obligation, possibility/probability, permission/prohibition, ability, advice, or degrees of formality. If used in the present and future tense, modal verbs must be followed by a verb in the base form. Phrasal verbs consist of a verb plus one or two particles which may be a preposition, an adverb, or an adverb plus a preposition. There are three types of phrasal verbs. One is the Type 1 - Intransitive which can't be followed by a direct object, the second one is the Type 2 - Transitive Separable in which an object pronoun can only come between the verb and the particle or an object noun can come either between the verb and the particle or after the particle, and the third on is the Type 3 - Transitive inseparable in which the object phrase or object pronoun both come after the particle. This type also includes phrasal verbs that have two particles, and adverb followed by a preposition. There are actually two voices used in English, the active voice and the passive voice. In the active voice, the subject of the sentence is the doer of the action while in the passive voice, the subject of the sentence becomes the receiver of the action. But in the passive voice, the doer is not known, not important, or we don't want to say who performs the action.
