In this Unit, I have learned a lot about the importance of course books and lesson materials. Course books are very important for teachers. A certain course book provides the main material of a class, even though teachers can use some supplementary materials, the classes have to base on the course book.
If teachers are able to choose the course books by themselves, it would be better for them to know the merits and faults of each book before thaye choose one. As for merits, I prefer to choose a book which has a reasonable and balanced mix of grammar, vocabulary, reading and writing, and it also should be attractive.
As for faults, it is impossible for a certain book to meet different students’ needs. And a certain course book can limit people’s imagination. As English teachers, we should try our best to overcome these disadvantages.
As for lesson materials, we can choose materials like songs, video and newspapers. And what kind of materials will be used should depend on students’ different levels.
What’s more, teachers can creat some activities to help our students practice in specific parts, like Crossword, Gap Fill and so on.
