Pronunciation is one of the most neglected parts of teaching english. Phonology is the study of sounds. There are 3 main parts of phonology, stress, rhythm, and intonation. Intonation is the volume and pitch used in a sentence. Stress is used to highlight individual words. Intonation in a statement is usually a rise fall pattern. There is also flat intonation and fall to rise intonation. Ways to teach intonation are with nonsense word play, gesturing with hand the up and down, singing and by writing it out. Stress is a strong word in a sentence, there can only be stress on syllable words. The goal is to have the student feel the music of the language.
