I have never had the different teaching theories outlined for me the way this chapter has done for me. It seemed that the ESA is a culmination of all of these theories that was packaged into a convenient way for teachers to learn. The emphasis on engaging students with various activities that get them talking and thinking in the language being learned was something that resonated with me. The study and activate stages, or rather, the distinction between them are a bit fuzzy for me still. It seems that the study period is the point where new concepts are learned and the activate phase is the application of those new concepts.
