This unit covers the basics of teaching pronunciation and gives examples on how to be successful. I learned that English is really complicated and confusing compared to some other languages! I learned more about which organs are activated to create specific sounds. I was skeptical about learning and teaching a whole other set of symbols and seemingly language to explain English. However, after seeing the results of the teacher in the video using the Phonemic Alphabet, I better understand. While we are not tonal, the stresses in our language help to convey other meanings of things unsaid when we speak. I really enjoyed learning more about why I speak the way I do, and I think the technicalities I learned will help me to explain it to students.
