There are 2 different materials to use when teaching english as a foreign language. There is authentic and created work. Authentic work is the use of newspapers, tv, magazines, etc., it is basically real world information. Authentic material can be more interesting and relatable. There is also created work, which is more like crosswords, gap fill, and teacher made material. For a balanced lesson both styles should be used. Course books can also be used with input and changes being made to make it more in tune with the class needs.
