This unit was particularly assuring on the common problems I had been worrying over. There is an emphasis on classroom rapport that I didn't consider prior (between students as well as the teacher). The ideas within are helpful--passing a ball that shares information about each other, using a 'tell us about yourself' board game, handing out questionnaires as well as a potential Needs Analysis--and really encourages creativity when approaching something as nerve-wracking as a first day. Having a list of warmers (warm-up exercises) as material for the Study Phase was also very comforting--I sometimes get stuck on what to do for Study Phases. Something I hadn't considered was the different student levels and how to handle the gaps. When it spoke of weaker students getting overwhelmed and frustrated, I was reminded of how it felt when I had taken an L2 class. If my professor had more training, perhaps I would have been a more avid student. I will keep this in mind and try not to repeat their mistakes.
