This unit covers testing and evaluation of students. this is helpful in many ways. Placement tests are given to determine what the student already knows in order to ensure that they are placed in the right class for their level. Progress tests are given out through out the term in order for teachers to gauge what the students have learnt and retained as well as pinpoint any problem areas that may need more focus. Practise tests are used in order to prepare students for an external exam of which there are many. Some such as the ESOL skills for life are designed for people from another country who are living in the UK, whereas Cambridge has a range of exams at different levels, the CAE (certificate of advanced english) is generally a requirement for non native english speakers to attend university in the UK.
