This unit covers different types of tests and exams. There are many specific exams, for example the Cambridge Assessment papers. It is useful to know the different exams and specifications they offer as they are tailored to particular audiences. In addition to differentiating by provider, exams can be differentiated by their aim (e.g placement tests, progress tests or diagnostic tests). Testing is a useful part of evaluating students' progress but is not the be all and end all of monitoring.
