I really enjoyed watching the recording of the instructor and students learning phonics. It helped me to better understand how using third-party symbols could be useful in teaching sounds and memorizing which words sound like what. This unit stresses the equal importance of learning receptive and productive skills, and how each will be useful to students in their careers. It also suggests when to control an activity to encourage accuracy versus allowing the students to be creative to expand and practice their fluency.
