This unit covers course materials both authentic (this means real life language ie newspaper, menus, radio etc.) and created (coursebooks and prepared work for teaching). It would seem that there are advantages and disadvantages to both. Whilst authentic material can be more interesting and relevant to students and a good way for them to gain confidence they are also not graded to any particular level. Created material is on the other hand graded to the students level and covers all areas of language it can be boring as well a dictating what is to be taught. It would appear that a good teacher could follow a course book whilst also adapting it and replacing parts with authentic material in order to keep the lessons varied and interesting in order to keep the students motivated.
