In this short unit I learned that past tense verb forms follow similar patterns as present tense verb forms. Past simple is used for completed actions in the past that are typically given with the time of occurence or the definite time of occurence is obvious and therefore implied. Past continuous is used for interrupted past actions and past actions that began before that time and probably continued happening. Past perfect is used for actions that ocurred before another action in the past and past perfect continous, while less commonly used, is useful to express an action that had been going on up to a certain point in time in the past.
