This unit covers some of the important features of books and the different types of materials that can be used in the classroom. There are two types of materials. Authentic materials which include magazines, authentic programs, songs and films. And created materials, which can be anything artistic created by the teacher , such as crosswords and flashcards. Course books, on the other hand, have a great deal of benefits for the students because they offer a variety of grammar, and vocabulary and they can also be appealing to the eye . However, the downsides of books may cause some inconvenience because they might not always meet the needs of the students. This unit was very helpful for me because it enlightened me on the subject matter of course books and their best use as well as the different options that a teacher can choose from when using a book, such as omitting , supplementing or adapting.
