This unit provided useful points to consider with classroom management such as the use of eye contact, especially in showing students you're interested and confident, and in prompting them to speak. Classroom management has always been one of the most difficult things I have faced in the classroom, and I would like to improve in it. I would like to come up with easier ways to provide instruction to students with basic English levels. I think pictures, (consistent) gestures and good use of voice will greatly enhance the classroom. I think when students are sleepy and about to fall asleep, it shows that the teacher is trying to dominate without being receptive. In the future, I would like to try out some of the seating arrangements proposed, especially horseshoe in smaller classes, and ways to give simple instruction. It is difficult for me to establish rapport with classes of over 40 students, so I would like to figure out the best amount of groupwork for them (perhaps just in pairs and groups of 4 to maximize speaking time) and not picking on the same students over and over. I especially would like to come up with a set of consistent gestures and instructions so that they are able to pay attention without getting too bored. I definitely will do my best to minimize writing on the board time, TTT and getting upset if students aren't paying attention. I think honing these skills will make the experience much better for students.
