In this important Unit on Teaching Special Groups, we focus primarily on teaching very young learners as well as business people. Each has their own special challenges, namely fun, focus, and discipline for the little ones, and comfort-level / pragmatics for the business people. Kids need good clear instructions and fun games and exercises. Worker bees need us to be time on task. They're tired and have probably worked all day. We are cutting into their Friends Netflix binge time! We should use lots of authentic materials from their workplace. And we should know their roles and not embarrass anybody in front of their peers. A group of multilingual learners can be a real blast because they all must speak in English to communicate. With both groups avoid the mother tongue no matter how tempting. Do midterm and post-course analyses. Lots of praise for little ones helps, as does a decorated classroom, This goes for the grown-ups as well.
