In this unit I watched two different lessons with the same english language aim, but with a teacher who displayed very different attitudes, activities and approaches to the lesson. It was interesting to see how important the attitude and mannerisms of the teacher are, as it effects the learning outcomes for the entire lesson. Even making slight adjustments, such as doing choral drills with and without the teacher repeating the target word, can have a huge effect on how the comfortable the students feel with what is being asked of them. Gestures, such as pointing in a certain way, also seem to have a bit effect. Even elicitation with writing on the board, such as appropriate gap-filling, has an enormous impact on how much the students speak and want to use the language point. It was an extremely eye-opening lesson.
