From this unit, I have learnt the difference between using authentic and created materials and which is more suitable for my students. I also found out the advantages, disadvantages and how to use a course book. In order to choose the correct course book, there are also a few factors to consider especially the materials in it and the attractiveness to the students as I have seen course books that are very plain and boring. Before this, I was quite unclear on how to choose a suitable course book especially because I have students from all levels taking tuition from me. However, I'm happy to note that all this while, I have been doing exactly what a teacher is supposed to do when using a course book and that is to omit, replace, supplement or adapt. I have been doing adaptation from my student's course book because, after one lesson, I would have already identified his or her weaknesses.
