In this unit, I learned how much the attitude of a teacher can affect the success of a lesson. In each video, the teacher's positive or negative attitude was apparent in everything he did. It was especially apparent in how fast or slow he spoke, how he reacted to students' answers, how he interacted with students through voice and gesture, and how he reacted when students appeared to not understand the material. Subtle actions such as speaking quickly and judging students' answers established an intimidating and confusing atmosphere, in which students likely learned little. Actions such as speaking slowly and being positive about students' answers, however, established a comfortable atmosphere in which students appeared to understand much more. This lesson has caused me to reflect on small actions I take in classes that I have assisted with, and how I might be contributing to the atmosphere of a class.
