This unit helps teachers to consider more carefully the factors that go into their decisions about when and how to teach vocabulary, grammatical forms, and language functions. The unit also contains hints about what types of lesson plans as well as activities may be most appropriate for particular types of lessons that emphasize either vocabulary or grammar. It was particularly interesting to me to consider the overlap between the concerns involved in teaching both vocabulary and grammar, and how the two might be integrated naturally within a lesson. I also found the section on language function particularly thought-provoking as it asked me to consider the different registers of speech and their use, rather than just being content to present the bare basics of language.
