Watching these two examples of a classroom proved a helpful way to bring the information I have learned so far together. It is challenging understanding concepts by only reading about it. Watching a teacher actively in a classroom helped me understand how to apply the information. In the first video, I was uncomfortable with how quick and rushed the lesson seemed. The teacher entered the classroom and immediately started to teach. He also seemed to be unsure of what he was teaching until he read the lesson plan. Lesson plans are a helpful guide, but it is not a great example to students when you do not look prepared. The teacher in the first video was also sarcastic and off-putting in the way he talked to students who were unclear about an answer, or of what was happening in class. The second video, on the other hand, showed me helpful strategies of how to help students feel comfortable and engaged. The teacher was kind, spoke slowly and clearly, made sure he was familiar with their names and asked students to participate at random to keep all participating. More importantly, I was able to see the ESA teaching method in action, which still confuses me.
