This unit discussed lesson planning. I learned that too much planning came make the lessons seem too rigid, inflexible and teacher centric. If the teacher is following the lesson plan to the letter, he/she may not leave room for adjustments based on the students’ needs. But an inexperienced teacher would benefit from a lesson plan because without it, he/she may lack direction. Inexperienced teachers may also not be able to deal with language problems that could arise. I learned a written lesson plan acts as an aid to planning, meaning teachers can set goals for the lesson and student achievement by the end of the lesson. It also acts as a working document, as teachers can make notes of what worked in class and what did not. Finally, it is a record of what the class has done and what materials were used for the lesson. This unit provided the basic elements of a good lesson plan.
