The content of this unit focuses on good teaching techniques that inspire and motivate students, as well as the qualities of a good learner. When teaching English, we may have young learners or adult learners, who each come to our classroom with a different set of experiences and expectations for themselves and for us. We must motivate our students while effectively gauging their level of expertise and their cultural practices. The classroom can be vibrant, fun, and exciting if we model good pronunciation and usage, monitor student progress, facilitate meaningful learning activities, and prompt lots of practice! Finally, there are varying levels of language fluency, from beginner to advanced. Beginners may come in with no vocabulary at all. Intermediate learners know lots of English words but use them inaccurately. Advanced English learners get to enjoy learning the subtleties of English. Out role as teachers is to build on what they already know!
