Unit 10 – Video lessons
In the first video my impression was the lesson was very teacher centered. A “lets get on with it” attitude was demonstrated to the class by Simon. Not much explanation, if any, was given to the students. As if Simon expected the students to read his mind. Ending the lesson with “that's life isn't it... some people lose, some people win” was a nice touch!
The second video was more what you expect to see when a teacher cares about the students understanding of a new language. Simon was much more engaged with the students. The class began with an quick introduction by the teacher. Followed by the exchange of names and the ever so polite “nice to meet you” with every student. The teacher then started the lesson with a few short sentences he had previously written on the board. Follow by a language point then continuing on with a worksheet activity. After a review of the worksheet was finished the students were then given a second activate activity. This mill drill activity allowed the students to further practice the language point and practice oral communication with questions for one another.
