Although this was a rather short unit, it really had me thinking about the course books that I have used when learning a foreign language. Many of the points brought up about how to optimize usage of course books are things that I remember my teacher using, such as not relying on the book all the time, skipping around the chapters to fit the specific syllabus my teacher had created, giving lots of supplemental activity and only using the most interesting and appropriate materials and activites from the book while using it enough so we do not ask why we had to buy it. I also learned how to consider a course book before getting one for a class and other considerations about their availability and appropriateness in regards to the native language of the students.
