In this Unit, we learn about production of language, which consists of speaking and writing. Two main goals drive productive language instruction: Accuracy and fluency. But students will not gain confidence and become fluent if they are corrected too much. We teachers need to have very clear lessons the either focus on accuracy (controlled and guided) or fluency (creative), but not both at the same time. Games are a great way to encourage fluency. They are fun and interesting to the students. But they are not time-wasters. The schools where we teach should have many hand and may ask us to purchase books of them but we can just make up our own based on the game shows we grew up with. And we can cut and paste comic strips, leaving the dialiog bubbles blank, for fun story-building activities.
