This unit was brief but informed me a lot about different tests that can be given both in and out of the classroom. It informed me about several external exams that I had no prior knowledge about and taught me the differences between diagnostic tests and placements tests. The most interesting part of this chapter is that many teacher's belief that tests are not a good measure of knowledge. I have noticed, personally, that language tests tend to test memory more than knowledge, such as when I cram for a test and then forget all the information afterward, but I now realize that many professionals in the field of ESL also feel that way.
