This unit gave an in-depth look at the sound system of the English language, with overviews of intonation, stress (both within words and across sentences), and the technical aspects of pronunciation. The detail of the technical explanations was tremendously helpful as a reference, and for thinking about how to teach pronunciation. I was surprised and interested to learn that pronunciation is not always taught well, and that it ranks first among concerns that ESL students have about English language education.
