Watching the first lesson became difficult to watch because of the harsh, negative, confusing, and condescending nature of the teacher. One could assume that being a student in his class would be very overwhelming. Instantly, it is noted that he needed to remember what lesson he was teaching and seemed extremely unprepared. His topic is vague, scattered, and sounds at first to be an 'unnecessary' lesson! The first teacher was quick to call out students on their errors, without proper correction of any kind, and overall he was extremely rude to the students. Gestures in the classroom are essential to student's interest, so small things he did such as wiping his nose on his hand or checking his phone were very off putting. The list for what was wrong in this lesson could go on. On the contrary, the second lesson was immediately more positive and uplifting since the teacher started right away with his name and kindly asking for the student's names—unlike the first who had students use name cards and rudely commented to a student who was missing theirs. The second teacher was prepped for his lesson and did not dwell on errors, late students, etc. He successfully uses elicitation and interaction with students throughout his lesson. He explains his handout with more elicitation before handing it out, which is also unlike the first who didn't seem to even understand the handout himself and had the students work individually instead of in groups. What really stood out to me was the overall attitude of the two teachers and you can see this reflected in small actions they did such as how they start and end their lessons. Being positive and encouraging to your students and not humiliating them in any form should be a teacher;s priority in the classroom.
