In Unit Eight, I learned about the seven different future tenses used in English. I was surprised to learn that present simple and present continuous can be used in the future tense under certain usages. I feel that a when teaching these specific tenses to students it will be imperative to differentiate between the present tense usages and the future tense usage because I am having a difficult time myself differentiating between different tenses so I can only imagine it will be even more so as a learner. When attempting the task sheet, I realized how challenging it is to differentiate some of the future tenses, and just tenses in general, since some future tenses are so similar have overlapping usages. For example, present continuous and ‘going to’ tense both have the usage of making plans that convey the same meaning in different forms. From my experience as a language learner, I would always want a clear distinction between different grammar or tenses so I could compartmentalize them and make it easier to use, however, language is not always so convenient and overlapping usages can be very confusing. I can only assume that another language learner would want to do that same.
