In this unit, I learned how to effectively teach vocabulary, grammar, and language functions. In selecting vocabulary for each student level, these items need to be considered: (1) appropriacy to the students, (2) appropriacy to the task, (3) how often students will use or come across the language and if it can be applied to different situations, and (4) the teachability of the vocabulary. It is important for students to know the meaning of the vocabulary item, how/when to appropriately use it, spelling, pronunciation, how it interacts and affects other words, and grammar. In teaching grammar structures students will need to know what the language means, how it is used, it's grammatical form, and how it is said/written. Teaching language functions (such as inviting, agreeing, disagreeing, suggesting, etc) includes the appropriateness of the language in terms of the kind of language they use - formal, informal, tentative, etc.
