According to this last unit, an advantage of teaching an existing group would be that the students already know and are comfortable with each other. Totally agree, it is a great environment to start with. They would easily take a part in some even challenging activities rather than staying passive and not willing to participate. A course book in the first lesson would be not a great idea.
