This unit discussed various aids that can be used in the classroom, such as CDs, cassettes, overheard projectors, and computers. While all technology and materials have the potential to enhance the classroom, their routine overuse may hinder their attention-grabbing effect on students. Teachers should familiarize themselves with the technology before using it and have a clear back-up plan just in case their devices go awry. Visual aids can be particularly helpful in the classroom, grounding vocabulary in real world images and allowing students to form organic visual associations in addition to learning the spelling and usage of the word.
