I have learned through comparing these two very different lessons that the teacher's attitude and level of preparedness are extremely important in maintaining students' interest as well as enabling them to learn productively. The teacher's sense of humour and a positive attitude to negative situations like latecomers and wrong answers allowed the students to feel at ease in class, and thus they are able to contribute without fear of criticism. He was also very well prepared beforehand with a whiteboard ready with prompt questions, one of which is easy for the students to understand. He also prepared teaching aids like a plate and pictures. The flow of the lesson from stage to stage was logical and his explanations before the worksheet and the Bingo game were clear and he ensured that the students understood before he proceeded with the student-student phases. Comparing these two videos have brought home the importance of having a lesson plan especially for new teachers, as his way of explaining the language concept as written on the whiteboard in the second video allows the students to grasp the grammar rules and usage easily.
